Film is a beautiful medium and Alex Mooney fell in love at an early age. So it’s no surprise her career has always been in production, where she began as a production manager with an empty passport.
Countless commercials and many full pages later, Alex teamed with director Amanda Jane at The Film Business in Melbourne to produce her award-winning work before returning to Sydney in 2000 - and it was here that she enjoyed a successful six-year partnership with director Jon Gwyther at Plaza Films that featured a steady stream of commercial work for agencies worldwide.
It was Alex’s next decision that lead to the creation of Orange Whip Films. Teaming up with writer/director duo The MacRae Brothers in March 2006, she produced their submissions and short films for Project Greenlight Australia. The boys eventually beat off over 800 other entries to win a million-dollar production budget. Alex’s primary project for 2007 then became the resulting feature film, The View from Greenhaven Drive, written and directed by the brothers and co-produced by Alex with Martin Brown of Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge fame.
Alex’s other short film production credits include La Croce with director Matt Harris (short listed for selection for Cannes 2006) and Concerto with director Daniel Mitchell (produced for Cannes 2007) being the most notable.
